Vance of Neswland visited in Boone last week with Mr. Vance’s sister, Mrs. C. B. Angel. Al so visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Garvey Hayes and Mrs. Gwyn Hayes. Mrs. R. H. Harmon and son Charles visited Sunday with rel atives in Charlotte and attended the wedding of Mrs. Harmon’s nephew, Mr. Wayne Jones, to Miss Betty Rash at the Wesley Heights Methodist Church. Dr. Orus Sutton, accompanied by his father, Mr. T. B. Sut ton, made a business trip to Middleton, Tenn. last week. Mr. and Mrs. James Vines visited Sunday in Johnson City, Tenn. with Mr. Lynn Vines who is a patient at the Veter ans Hospital there. Mrs. Wayne Richardson has returned from Hagerstown, Md. where she visited with rela tives for several days and at tended the wedding of her sister, Mrs. Ruth E. Funk to Mr. Arthur Hatcher on Saturday, Sept. 7. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Norris and children Bob and Becky from Mayodan visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Lewis and Kim. Mrs. Norris attended the Yearbook Conference held on the ASU campus. Miss Linda Hardison left Tuesday for Greensboro where she will begin her junior year at the University of N. C. Mr. and Mrs. James H.Coun cill, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Wink ler and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Payne were guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Townsend in Newland. Dr. and Mrs. Lee Reynolds have returned home after a months’ vacation in Indiana. They spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Pap paioanou in Charlotte and Dr. and Mrs. Bob Reynolds inSpar tanburg, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Andrews and Mr. and Mrs. G. R. An drews visited Sunday with rela tives in Sparta. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Smith from Greenville, S. C. spent the weekend with Mrs. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Austin. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keller and Mr. Jack Austin of Lenoir. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Walker and sons Randy and Kirk from North Wilkesboro were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A, Hagaman. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Mr. and Mrs. Joe McConnell and children of Hickory spent Sunday visiting relatives in Mrs. Vernon Waters will enter Charlotte Memorial Hos pital Sunday for surgery on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Wagner, organist of Quarry ville, Pa., and Mrs. Bob Cook, vocalist of Boone. Wearing a formal gown of peau de soie and embroidered alencon lace, the bride was given in marriage by her father. The empire bodice featured a scooped neckline and long sleeves ending in cala points. The chapel train, which was attached at the shoulder line, had scattered motifs of the lace repeated on the gown. Her illusion veil was held by a headpiece of peau de soie and alencon lace with sequins and pearls. She carried a cascade of white phaleanosipis and cy mbidium orchids. . Mr§, Tom Myers of Raleigh and Miss Kitty Wagner were their sister’s matron of honor and matron of honor respecti vely. Bridesmaids Mrs. Rivers Lynch of Coward, S. C„ and Miss Susan Inman of Charlotte were assisted by Miss Beverly Barnett, who was flower girl. They wore avcado satin gowns and carried long-stem yellow mums. Mr. Potts chose his father as best man and ushers were Mr. Allan Wagner of Boone, Mr. Donnie Baxter of Robbin, N.C., and Mr. Rivers Lynch cf Coward, S. C. Ringbearer was Master Brad Wagner and director of the wedding was Mrs. Oscar Danner Jr. The bride’s mother chose a medium brown ensemble and the bridegroom’s mother was at tired in green. To Attend Area Meet Of Legion In Oteen Members of the local chapter of the American Legion made plans at their business meeting last week to attend the Fifth Area Meeting of the Legion next month in Oteen, N. C. Discussion was also held con cerning projects planned by Post 130 for next year. Presiding at the business meeting was Mrs. J.W. Norris, president. After the meeting, a social hour was held. To Address Democratic Women Mrs. Hubert H. Humphrey will be the principal speaker at the annual convention of the North Carolina Democratic Women Friday and Saturday in Winston Salem. Washington confirmed Mrs. Humphrey’s plans to visit the Tarheel State Monday. There is still a possibility that the wife of another dignitary could Home Life Dept. Had Thursday Meeting The Home Life Department of the Worthwile Woman’s Club met at the Club House Thurs day. Mrs. Frank McCracken, chairman, was in charge of the business session. Dr. and Mrs. John G. Barden delighted the cluh with a re port of their trip to Californ ia. They showed color slides and told interesting facts about The Painted Desert, old cathe drals, church, state capitols, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite Park, Disney land and other places on their trip. Dr. and Mrs. Barden went with the Moore Tours during July and August, 1968. Mrs. Avery Graybeal, sister of Mrs. D.L. Wilcox, was also on the Tour. The hostesses, Mrs. Gordan Taylor, Mrs. L. T. Tatum and Miss Margaret Moretz, served pound cake, ice cream and coffee to 22 members and guests. attend the meeting also. Mrs. Humphrey’s speech highlights the first day of activities which begin with registration at the Robert E. Lee Hotel at 10 a.m. The opening session at 2 p.m. will feature Bob Scott, demo cratic gubernatorial nominee, who will be introduced by the new State Party Chairman, James V. Johnson. Also ap pearing on the program will be State Y.D.C. President, Jim Hunt and Party Executive Di rector, Charles D. Barbour. A tea at the School of the Arts, sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. James Semans of Durham is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The Forsyth Democratic Women’s club will sponsor a social hour at 7 and the banquet will follow. Prior to Mrs. Humphrey’s speech, Governor Dan Moore will make remarks. Poplar Hill Drive 4-H Club Has Meeting The Poplar Hill Drive 4-H Club met at Mrs. Doris McNeil’s home for their August meeting. Attending the meeting were eleven members, one leader and a visitor. The meeting open ed with the usual business ses sion and closed with a film on coffee. After the film, refresh ments were served. The 4-H Club earlier this month had a get-together at the municipal swimming pool at Blowing Rock. MSS. JACK CARLTON FURRH Lambert- Furr Vows Said Miss Shirley Annie Lambert and Jack Carlton Furr, both of Concord, were married in a double-ring ceremony perform ed Sunday evening, Aug. 25, in the Second Presbyterian Church in Albemarle. The Rev. Crawford White officiated and Master Jeffery Furr was acolyte. Granddaughter of Mr. Raleigh R. Williams of Route 2, Boone, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stancil G. Lambert of Stanfield. Mr. Furr is the son of Lt. and Mrs. Jack C. Furr of Norfolk, Va. Given in marriage by her brother, Bob F. Lambert, the bride wore a taffeta gown with sheath skirt, square neckline and an organza and Chantilly lace train which was attached at the shoulders. Her veil was attached to a queen’s crown of seed pearls and she carried a bouquet of white roses and ste phanotis centered with an orchid. Mrs. Raymond A. Griffin was her sister’s matron of honor. She wore a deep apricot gown featuring elbow length sleeves and a square neckline. Her bouquet was tangerine carna tions and white Marguerite dais Dressed like the honor at tendant, bridesmaids were Miss Sylvia Lambert and Miss Brenda Fair, Their dresses were a lighter shade than Mrs. Grif fin’s. Flower girl was Maria Dennis and ringbearer was Mas ter Sidney Lambert. Lt. Jack Furr was his son’s best man and ushers were Fletcher R. Adams of Concord and Larry Scarborough of Kan napolis. The bride, a 1965 graduate of West Stanley High School, attended Evans College of Com merce in Concord and is em ployed as secretary to the Dean at Barber-Scotia College in that city. She is a member of Alpha Iota, honorary business soro The bridegroom graduated in 1966 from Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach and attended Evans College of Com merce. A member of Phi Beta Pi fraternity, he is now em ployed as assistant golf pro at the Cabarrus Country Club. After a trip to Virginia Beach, they are at home at 462 Union St. S. in Concord. The Rev. W. R. Kimberlin officated. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Todd, the bride is the great-granddaughter of the late W. G. Todd of Boone.The bride groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Clark. The bridal gown of candel light ivory silk was styled with Sr. Citizens To Meet At Blowing Rock The Watauga Senior Citizens will meet Friday, Sept. 20, with Mrs. H. R. Reed in Blowing Rock at noon. Each members is asked to bring a covered dish. This will be an important meeting and the newly elected officers hope to make this an interesting and helpful year. .Members are asked to attend, bring a friend, to be ready to discuss their hobby and join in the fun of organizing a Hoot enanny Band. Their punch colored crepe dresses featured scalloped necklines and match ing long lace sleeves. Head pieces were circles of silk il lusion adorned with silk or ganza roses. Their bouquets were bronze and gold mums. Little Miss Robin Todd was flower girl and ringbearer was Master Marty Miller. Mr. Clark was his son’s best man and ushers were Tommy Diggs of Greenville and Alan Nelson, Dennis Crisy and Luke Woodbury III of Lenoir. A graduate of Happy Valley High School and CaldwellTech nical Institute, the bride is em ployed at Western Piedmont Community College in Morgan ton. An employee of Barger Ashe Roofing Company, Mr. Clark graduated from Lenoir High School and attends West ern Piedmont. After a wedding trip to Gat linburg, Tenn., the couple re sides on Route 10, Lenoir. Seventy-five guests attended the church reception given after the ceremony by the bride’s parents. C. 1 “Iris For Every Garden” Club Topic 4 ‘Iris for Every Garden*’ was the program topic presented by Mrs. Blanch Payne at the Moun taineer Garden Club meeting last week. Mrs. Albert Mullins present 'ed pictures of variations of iris, many of which were winners of the Dykes Medal. Announcement was made of the North Carolina Garden Club meeting in Winston-Salem Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 24 and 25. The DistrictII meet ing will be held in Newton next month.
